ROTARY TILLERS – ROTARY HOES

 

They are machines for working the land in order to create the best conditions for the growth of the root system of the plants as well as to unroot weeds and to inter manure that has been previously spread over the land. 

The rotary tiller is a carried machine and driven by the tractor through three point linkage. 

It consists of a horizontal shaft (rotor) on which are fitted the rotating units (weeding hoes) taking their motion from the tractor P.T.O. by a cardan shaft and through a reduction angle gearbox and a side chain transmission or with gears. 

The required powers strictly depend on the work width of the machine and on the work depth of the weeding hoes and of the type of the land: from 20 up to 100 HP for widths between 800 and 3000 mm. 

The number of revolutions needs by the rotor oscillates in a range between 150 and 200 rev. per min. depending on the nature of the land and on the kind of work required. 

CHOICE OF THE PRODUCT 

In order to supply the most suitable product, it is necessary to keep in consideration the following details.

•   Tipe of rotary machine: this means if the machine has been designed to get one speed only to the rotor, or if several speeds are required with the use of a hand operated gear shift or of a stick shift.
• Power: it depends on various characteristics such as: kind of land, work speed and width, tough the size that mostly influences the power absorbed by the machine and in a pratically linear way, is the work width.
• Work width: it is the width of the rotary unit. 
• Number of revolutions of the rotor: forecasted working speed of the hoeing units.

The differences between a unit with a gearshift and a unit with only a single speed is that with the former there exists the possibility to get the most fit work speed to the rotor depending on the kind of the land, on its characteristics and on the chopping result required. 

The approximate power needed by the gearbox can be determinated according with the following formula:

Approximate working tractor speed 2/4 Km/h and working depth between 14/30 cm.
