ROTARY CUTTERS

 

They are machines carried or trailed by the tractor; their tools are blades or knives which can cut or destroy, due to the fact that they turn around a vertical axe.

Besides cutting and destroying grass to keep clean pastures and set aside, these machines are also used for cleaning woods as bulldozer rotary cutter able to cut big bushes. 

Motion reaches the blades (the tools), through a vertical right angle multiplier gearbox that is driven by the tractor P.T.O. through a cardan drive shaft. The tip speed usually used on these machines are 70/90 m/sec (16.000 feet per min.). 

 

The typology of these machines can be: 

• Single rotor 
• Multi rotor: rigid or flex wing 
• Lift or pull model 
• On the trailed machines, because they can work with big angle between tractor and machine, to avoid stress and vibrations on the movement, a constant velocity joint is usually used. 

 

An idea of the cutting width can be: 

• Single rotor: 48” / 84” ( 1,2 / 2,1 m ) 
• Multi rotor: till a 14’ ( 4,3 m ) 
• Flex wing: till 20’ ( 6,0 m )
